Words Unspoken

Studies in Film, 9th grade level Due:_______

This is an individual assignment.  Over half of what we see in today’s media is unspoken.  In this assignment, students will learn how to determine and create their own inner monologue.

Part 1: Captured Moments

For this part of the assignment, you will study the following image and come up with the following:

A- A short background story leading up to the event depicted (2-4 paragraphs).

B-An internal monologue for two of the five people depicted (1 paragraph each)

Consider how you yourself would feel if you went outside and discovered one of your parent’s vehicles laying at the bottom of the pool.  Try imagining you were the parent him/herself.

Oops!

If you wish to use a different picture, it must be approved by myself at least one week prior to the due date.

Part 2: Thoughts in Motion

The second part of the assignment requires time in the computer lab.  You are to evaluate the following short film and its “characters.”  Write a 3-5 paragraph internal monologue of any one of the characters.  Don’t be limited by just what you see!  There are literally hundreds  of possible characters here!  Consider the scene from the woman inside’s point of view, or even the rose.  Imagine yourself as the street light watching the whole story unfold, yet unable to intervene.  Use your brain!  Creativity is a crucial part of this assignment.  As always, punctuation and grammer count.  Your work will be evaluated on the effort you put into the assignment, grammer and creativity.  Don’t forget to log the hours you were in the computer lab.

Short Example:

“He’s back-the man at the window.  I wish he would just build up the courage to come in.  The mistress has been so lonely lately.  How precious, he brought her a flower.  Oh, I do hope he comes in.  He doesn’t have much time left.  Oh well.  Another night, another internal battle lost.  Was that the door bell?”
